73-74, are there any that are 'bad'?

Since they haven't been mentioned, I'll put in the September '74 Eyes: 9.11 London out of Seastones, 9.18 Dijon Eyes>China Doll in set 2 which is lovely, 9.20 Paris Truckin>Space>Eyes>NFA>GDTR etc. is amazing, long soft jazz intro, often overlooked due to poor sound in circulating copies.

Also I'll mention 10.20.74 from Winterland, always overshadowed by 10.19 due to the latter's inclusion in the Movie. 10.20's Eyes>Stella Blue in the 3rd set is mournful and melancholy, being the last show, but deeply touching. Perhaps it will be included on the next DVD of Movie out-takes. PS- 10.20 also features a China>Rider for the ages...

Yea, I've always been partial to 07/19/74 – Sellend Arena.
But then again any from '74 were pretty damn good.

I second that! 6-18-74 is worth looking up for sure. The show is great! That and 6-23 are my favorite 74 shows. And my favorite eyes is 3-29-90 with branford. I swear it makes me feel like I'm floating. sweet intoxication!

Funny thing, I just listened to that 3/29/90 version of Eyes. It's absolutely beautiful. I'm also a big fan of the 2/26/77 version, but I'm biased because that's my favorite Dead show.

Oops! apparantly the best eyes is supposed to be from 73 or 74...in that case, I'd go with 6/18/74, but those years are not really my areas of expertise.

Also understanding the 73/74 request, best Eyes of all time was Englishtown 77 which is Dicks Picks 15 - came out of Estimated.

I must agree! The Raceway Park, Englishtown, NJ is BY FAR the most incredible Eyes I've ever heard to this day. Jerry NEVER played like he did on that day - before or after. I don't know what was going on with him at the time, but he sounded like the jazz great Wes Montgomery playing that song. Unreal!

Madison, Wisconsin 2/15/73 is a great one; and so is Des Moines, Iowa 6/16/74. And of course, the Eyes with Branford is really sweet as well... and very unique.

The Raceway Park '77 is the best hands down however; with Madison Wisconsin '73 coming in at an easy number two. All of the recordings of the Madison '73 that are available today aren't too good (even here in the archive), but it's still well worth listening to. Hopefully, SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE, SOMEDAY will get hold of the original recording of the Madison show, and we'll get to hear it in all of it's glory. Come on Dick! Thank you for giving us the the best version of Eyes ever on D.P. 15, but how about number two as well! I think most true Heads will agree that 02/15/1973 - Madison, Wisconsin - is one of the greatest shows ever performed. I think it's time.

Being well aware that the original poster wanted EYES info for 73-74, I have to chime in to support my favorite EYES of all time from Dekalb, Ill. 10-29-77

Please don't overlook this groovy, relaxed, yet intensely smoking gem of a version.

I know you were looking for 73 or 74 but sonce there are others making suggestions outside of those years I will chime in with my favorite show of the moment. 05-15-77/St. Louis. This has an excellent Eyes which materializes out of Estimated. this show also has the most wicked version of Dancin' in the Street ever! Take a listen to this tune around the fourteen minute mark where they hit a groove I've never heard them hit ever again on this tune. the whole show is just the shiznit! But, yeah this Eyes rocks!

not trying to be down on the 6/18/74 "eyes" - it is pretty much perfect, and an unbelieveable show taboot, but i would have to suggest the "eyes" from 6/16/74; it is perfect, and the AMAZING jam into Big River seals the deal for me. Please download it if you have not already.
8/6/74 - must agree on others recommendations of this one, a first set, stand alone "eyes," beautiful.
2/9/73 - first ever. it drops out of truckin'so smoothly you'd think they'd been playing it for years.
6/10/73 - opens the second set of a classic show.
11/30/73, a.k.a. "Dick's Picks 14" (disc two) - awesome, floatly, beautiful dp in general, with the "eyes" being no exception. To anyone who is into the dick's picks, check this one out.

I've always been partial to 18 minute version from 10/19/74 at Winterland (the version on disc 3 of the So Many Roads collection). I am currently listening to 5/15/77 for the first time and I must say, it is very epic

You're right Zack, I actually meant 10/19's version, not 10/18. Got my dates mixed up.

Stanford 2.9.73 is my favorite. First time played, and a very long, beautiful jam into China Doll. Get it!
